DATE CHANGE: SUNDAY 28TH MAY 2017
One thing that Fit Kids stands for is creating great exercise memories for children and their families – what better way to instil a life-long healthy attitude towards staying active, right? So when we heard about this really inspired new event concept, the Super Hero Charity Dash, we were all over it.
Here’s how it works. Bring your family and friends along to Mouille Point Lighthouse on SUNDAY 28TH MAY @ 10AM, dressed up as a super hero (more about that later). Bring a gift for a charity (see which charities here), then walk or run 5km, handing over your gift to the charity of your choice at the half way mark.
NOW HERE’S WHY THIS EVENT HAS GOT US SO EXCITED
1. Families participating in an active event together. You guys, this is our favourite thing in the world! Every day we teach kids about how great it feels to be strong, able and confident. But we know that our work is just one piece of the puzzle. Parents and children getting active together is another really big and really important piece, so get up and do it.
2. Giving back in a really concrete way. Children (actually us adults too) learn much better through actually doing and experiencing something than just talking about it. By carrying a gift for a charity and physically handing it over, we have no doubt that our children’s kindness-awareness (we just made that up, but I’m sure it’s a thing) will grow exponentially.
3. You get to dress up! Yes even you! Now of course this is not an absolute deal breaker if it’s really really not your thing. But your kids will love it, and will love you for it, and you should probably just do it anyway.. Plus there’s so little opportunity to celebrate the silly side of life with your family, so just put your undies on the outside of your fancy expensive ‘active wear’ and take yourself lightly for an hour or two.
